The OGS

The OGS (Offene Ganztagsschule, open all-day school) is part of our active school life. Besides supervision, it offers sports and arts activities as well as homework support. Every day there is a shared afternoon snack with fresh fruit and vegetables.

OGS I: Wednesdays from 11:35 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., free for all primary school children.
OGS II: Monday to Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Participation in OGS II is optional and places are limited. You register your child each spring for the following school year; an enrolment committee allocates the places. Registration is binding for one school year.

Approach

Qualified staff and close coordination

The sports and arts clubs are led by qualified professionals, supported by additional carers when needed.

The OGS team works closely with the school management and teachers and exchanges with them regularly.

What the OGS offers

When lessons end at 3:00 p.m., children check in with their OGS group, followed by a short afternoon snack. Mondays are group time.

Clubs are organised by age group. Currently on offer: dance, theatre, rhythm and drumming, art, seasonal crafts, playground and ball games, playful German and French, and magic.

There is also plenty of time for free play in the schoolyard or the OGS rooms. Throughout the year we prepare celebrations together, such as St. Martin’s Day, Christmas and Easter. Parents meet the team regularly, and two elected parent representatives keep in touch.

During the holidays

Holiday care

The École’s holidays partly differ from the NRW school holidays. Holiday care is available:
– at Carnival, on the Friday after Weiberfastnacht and the entire Carnival week (except Rose Monday)
– during the Easter holidays, in the first week before Easter (except Good Friday)
– in summer, depending on NRW holidays, one to two weeks in early July and two to three weeks from mid-August
– during the autumn holidays, in the first week of the École holidays

Care usually runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. if at least 8 children are registered. Registration details are sent by email in good time. Cost: €149 per primary school child per week, meals included.
